Media Studies Pathway

Aims

To expand students’ understanding and creativity of their media-filled worlds. The media is all around us and it is essential for students to not only understand how to build media products, but also to evaluate the impact mass communication has in an increasingly complex and ever changing world.

Film Narrative Features
Media Ethics
Horror or Western Film Genre Study
Media Product (Student chooses type of product. This also contains three Achievement Standards)

Level 3 Media Studies
One Film, Two Readings
New Zealand Representation
African American or War Film Genre Study
Media Product (Student chooses type of product. This also contains three Achievement Standards)

Pathways this course contributes towards

University courses where L3 Media Studies is a requirement e.g. Journalism/Television/ Film/ Video production. Vocational Pathways: Media and Creative Industries, as well as industries which include a Media component such as websites, advertising and public and customer relations.

Other essential information

In Media Studies we learn that media is always around and through taking this class I have the opportunities to learn how through radio work I can have a positive impact in the media world.
