Biology Pathway

Aims

Students will:

  • Understand the processes of life and appreciate the diversity of living things.
  • Understand the interactions of living things with each other and with the non-living environment.
  • Understand the processes that drive change in groups of living things over long periods of time and be able to discuss the implications of these changes.

Competencies

Communication; Understand, Analyse and present information in graphs and tables; Locating and processing information from a range of resources; Generating and testing hypotheses.

Pathways this course contributes towards

Study of Biology at Level 3 and University. Study of Medical and Health Sciences, animal or plant studies and conservation.

Other essential information

It is highly recommended that you have gained a Merit in Unfamiliar Text in Level 1 English, and in Genetic Variation in Level 1 Science. If you are not successful in the first Internal Assessment, your teacher may recommend an alternative standard(s).

Biology is such an interesting science, encompassing a range of different topics (from genetics to animal behaviour). In particular, biology has allowed me to gain an in-depth understanding of the living world around me. I see biology as an important part of any future pathway I take.
